The concert at the Al Whittle Theatre will feature fast paced, traditional fiddling at its finest, breath-taking ballads and piano that enhances both.
Tenor, Derrick Paul Miller, a Fredericton native, is a graduate of Acadia University’s Music program and a master’s graduate at the Hartt School of Music in Connecticut. He has played leading roles in both the US and Canada in musicals such as Funny Girl, Camelot, Cabaret, The Sound of Music and Les Miserables. Derrick is a member of the prestigious Canadian Opera Company Chorus, appearing in over 15 productions. For several years he has been the featured soloist at the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. A 2011 New Brunswick Music award nominee, Derrick attracts capacity crowds to his concerts.
Kathleen Gorey McSorley is a 17 year old fiddler from Fredericton who plays a Celtic style of fiddling but also enjoys old time, bluegrass, and other styles. Her dazzling performances also include singing and dancing. Kathleen has competed in the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Championship, Fleadh Cheoil (pronounced "flaw ke- ole") in New York and Ireland and is a 2010 nominee of both Music New Brunswick Awards and East Coast Music awards. She keeps a busy schedule, thrilling audiences throughout Canada, the US and overseas. She has been a member of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra for three years.
Accompanying both musicians will be Carolyn Holyoke, a well-known Fredericton pianist who is known for her arrangements in various genres of music. She has performed and recorded with many Celtic ensembles and has been performing and traveling with Kathleen Gorey-McSorley for the past 3 years.
