The NDP government recently announced that they will cut funding to universities by three percent and increase tuition fees by three percent for Canadian students for 2012-13. Tuition fees for international students and students in dentistry, medicine and law are not included under the cap and will be allowed to increase at an unregulated rate.

The government will also examine increasing tuition fees for students from other provinces above three percent for 2013-14 and the government will review its tuition fee policy for all students over the next three years.

On February 1 students and allies in Nova Scotia will take to the streets to call on the government to restore funding to post-secondary education, reduce tuition fees and increase needs based grants for students. Students across the country will be taking action on February 1 as part of the Education is a Right National Student Day of Action.

The march will start at Willow Park (Willow Ave. and Main St.) at 1pm.
