As part of Acadia’s recognition of Mi’kmaq History Month, Thomas Peace will be giving a public lecture in Room 132.
His talk, entitled “Before Facebook and Twitter: Mi’kmaw Social Networking in the Eighteenth Century”, will explore new ways of looking at old documentary sources. Using Antoine Gaulin’s 1708 census and the Acadian Parish registers, Peace will explore early-eighteenth century demography, spatial practices and social networks, which help us better understand the early eighteenth century relationship between the Mi’kmaq and Acadians.
Dr. Peace is a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow in the Native American Studies Program at Dartmouth College and teaches in the Department of History and Classics here at Acadia.
