Please join us for a public talk on Canadian Film:
"Where have all the theatres gone?".
This public talk will explore the challenges of independent cinema and movie theatres in Canada. It will be followed by a Q&A.

Speakers:
Bill Zimmerman cut his teeth on carbon arc 35mm projectors back in the early 60s. He is one of the founding members of Fundy Film in which he is currently serving as chair. Fundy Film is the 7th largest group in the Toronto International Film Festival Film Circuit. He is also a founding member of the Acadia Cinema Coop and served as volunteer manager of the Al Whittle Theatre from 2007 through 2010.

Al Whittle got his start helping with a travelling 16mm projector while in high school and started in cinemas in 1947. He came to the Acadia Cinema in 1953 and ran the theatre until he retired in 2000. He has been an active advisor to the Acadia Cinema Cooperative and Fundy Film since they were founded. Al still takes tickets on Sunday afternoons at Fundy Film screenings.

This public talk is being presented in conjunction with HIST 2493: Canadian History on Film. A special thanks to the Department of History and Classics for their support.
