World-Fusion Duo Concert with Ken Shorley and Ade Suparman
The gallery will be hosting a concert of original world-fusion music featuring percussionist (and Acadia faculty member) Ken Shorley and Indonesian master musician Ade Suparman, who will be visiting Acadia for a two-week residency with the School of Music.
Ken Shorley is a percussionist who specializes in hand drumming, especially the intricate techniques, drumming styles and rhythms of Turkey, the Arab world, South India and West Java (Indonesia).
Ade Suparman is a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist, composer and practitioner of many forms of traditional music from the Sundanese region of West Java. His principal solo instrument is the kacapi, a 20-string plucked zither, but he is also a master of the suling (bamboo flute) and kendang (barrel drums).
This intimate duo performance will feature exciting original music by both performers, as well as a selection of beautiful traditional music from Indonesia.
This concert is presented with the generous support of the Acadia University Art Gallery and Arts Nova Scotia.
