Sherman Downey and The Ambiguous Case are a roots rock band from Newfoundland, a band that creates an easy-going party wherever their van stops. With an energetic live show and an obvious love of what they do, they write and perform amazing songs on a wild variety of acoustic instruments.
Formed several years ago from the creative community that has sprung up around the Grenfell University’s Fine Arts programs, the band has toured relentlessly, developing a solid following for their rootsy sound. Unlike so many Newfoundland bands, they come from the western part of the Island. And though they hail from the tough paper mill town of Corner Brook, their sound is instead born out of the sunshine and blue water of Gros Morne Park and the mountains and fjords of that coast.
In 2010 they released their independent debut, ‘Honey For Bees’, and began to tour Canada for real.
Since then they have piled up audiences and plaudits wherever they have played. In recent times their music has been featured as the soundtrack to the hit Bravo TV show ‘Majumder Manor’. Fans across Canada voted them into the finals of the CBC Searchlight contest, where their music has been heard and embraced by thousands of new fans. In the spring of 2013 they were putting the finishing touches on their new album, slated to be released in the fall of the year.
