The Digby Area Theatre Society (DATS) will be presenting "MAUD," the story of the life of Canada's most famous folk artist, 'Maud Lewis, at the Annapolis Basin Theatre in Cornwallis Park. Written and Directd by DATS Board Member Hal Theriault, much of the play is based on interviews conducted in 1999-2000 with people who knew Maud and her husband Everett. Theriault's research reveals a relationship that, although beginning in an unorthodox way, blossomed into a mutually dependant and devoted partnership. Since its first production, "MAUD" has won standing ovations and accolades where ever it plays.

The August performance in Cornwallis is the first in four years, slightly revised and edited from the original. A final performance will take place at The Y'ARC in Yarmouth on September 14th, as part of a joint celebration and exhibition of Maud's life and works between the Yarmouth Arts Regional Council and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Yarmouth division.
