PURPOSE:

The workshop will introduce participants to my work, my working process, and materials and tools of use. Participants will be exposed to how place and its environs effect the development and creation of my studio work.

This is a hands on workshop in which the artists will produce and take away one completed work on a stretched 8" x 10" or 11” x 14” canvas, or stretched watercolour paper, and also a minimum of three preliminary studies.

INTENT AND OBJECTIVE:

The intent is to have the artists express through an art medium the idea, and the essence of something about this place. The objective is the use of sensory perception, awareness, observation, and thoughtful preliminary research/studies in creating a finished work of art within the workshop time frame.

WORKSHOP FORMAT OVERVIEW:

The workshop will be begin with introductions with participants outlining what they like to 'do best’, and what their paintings and painting practice are about. A brief discussion will ensue about my work and the effect of time and place.

Artists will make notes of their sensory perception and observations of their chosen place or space utilizing all their senses, and also their intuitive and emotive impressions, and what they would like too express about this place. Artists will do 4 preliminary compositional studies and approaches to the subject matter, one colour study maquette on primed paper, canvas board, or watercolour paper, plus one final work on stretched canvas or watercolour paper

The instructor will work closely with the artists in providing constructive critiques and evaluations, so they may bring together an amalgam and edited version of their ideas and essentials through studies into a final work that clearly express concept and strategies.

- one "8 x 10", or 11” x 14” pre stretched canvases, or stretched watercolour paper.
