The Mud Creek Days Wolfville Trail Race Poker Rally
is a trail race of an approximately 8k loop through the town of Wolfville encompassing the 4 main trail systems within the town limits.

Registration opens: 8:30 a.m.
Registration closes: 8:50 a.m. No registration after this time to the start line and pre-race talk: 8:50 a.m.
race start time: 9:00 a.m.
time to complete the course: 90 min.
fees: donations for the Mudley Fund will gratefully be accepted at the registration desk.
Prizes awarded after 10:30, once results have been tallied

This trail race is a poker rally whereby each racer will pick up a playing card along the route at designated "dealer" spots. The racer will collect 4 cards in total; one card at each of 4 different locations. The final card of the racer's poker hand will be given at the finish at which time the racer's time will be recorded. The racer with the best poker hand, followed by fastest time, is the winner. So if two racers who finish at the same time, the one with the better poker hand ranks higher. If racers have the same poker hand, they will be ranked according to speed.

Any racer who completes the race but does not have the required 4 playing cards will be disqualified. The course will close at 10:30 a.m. Any racer who hasn't collected the final card in the poker hand by 10:30 will be disqualified. If a racer believes that he is fast enough to complete 2 laps of the course within the time limit and he wishes to try to improve his poker hand, he must inform the desk, turn in his current playing cards and can then start again. The time from the first lap will stand but the second poker hand will serve to determine his placing.

There will be a "grand prize" for the racer who has the best poker hand and fastest time. Other prizes will be awarded as such: volunteers, fastest lap, second fastest lap, third fastest lap, etc. until all the prizes have been distributed or all racers have been rewarded, whichever comes first.

Sorry but due to the nature of the trails and the number of street crossings the minimum age is 15, no strollers, no dogs, and no hiking poles will be permitted.

Route description and route details: from the Wolfville Skate Park - west along the Millenium Trail System to the rear of the Acadia Arena (~1k). Along the eastern edge of the Arena parking lot to the crosswalk at the bottom of University Ave. A volunteer will be there to press the cross signal. Please do not cross until all traffic has come to a stop and the volunteer has directed you to cross. Failing to obey this volunteer could result in disqualification. South on University Ave. (uphill) to the Irving Center where there is a path just north of the building. Take this path west to Westwood Ave. and then turn left to continue South along the eastern edge of the street (opposing the flow of traffic). Cross the street at the gate to the botanical garden (there will be a sign/marker) to enter the Woodlands Trail System. Follow markers through the main trail, uphill, south, until you see a "dealer". Take a playing card. Continue on the main trail to Skyway Dr. Cross Skyway Dr. into the forest once more. Follow signage and markers to a second "dealer". Take your 2nd playing card. Traveling eastward through the forest, on the main trail, exit the trail east of the top of University Ave. onto Skyway Dr. again. Cross the street and follow the sidewalk eastward, along the sidewalk. There will be a water stop just before the Basinview commercial centre. Take a glass of water (self-serve) and put waste in waste can. Please stay on the sidewalk and run eastward. It is illegal to run on the road. You may be fined if you do and are caught. Run eastward on the sidewalk all the way to Sherwood Dr. to the entrance of the Reservoir Park. Follow the signs to enter the perimeter trail directly to the right of the entrance gate. Run the perimeter to the next "dealer" and take your 3rd playing card. Take the main trail from there, turning right at the reservoir to circle the northern side of the water until you reach the stairs. Take the stairs and follow the trail to Sherwood Dr. Cross Sherwood Dr. to continue on the main trail to the next "dealer" to get your 4th playing card. Following markers along the south branch, running a steep downhill (or walking it), to exit the trail system at the corner of King St. and Orchard Ave. Cross the intersection carefully into Rotary Park. Run towards the tennis courts, past the courts, across Victoria Ave. and down into Willow Park to the tourist bureau to receive your last playing card at the registration table. Pat yourself and someone else on the back.
