Speakers Series (5:30-6:30):  Reinventing the Small Family Farm: from horse power and compost teas to heirloom vegetables and juicing

Joel Huntley and Ann Doyle of Moon Tide Farm are pleased to have the opportunity to speak about their experiences reinventing the small family farm in rural, coastal Nova Scotia.

We will share our journey of how we came to be a small-scale farm and what we've learned (so far) along the way in terms of techniques, decision-making, and innovations on the farm. The small farm business we operate in Scots Bay employs a lot of old tools and a horse to cultivate crops on one hand and we use compost teas on our land and season extension techniques on the other. We sell heirloom vegetables but also added a fresh juicing business to our operations this year. We will explore this dynamic of today's modern hybrid small farmers who use some of the old and some of the new to bring fresh local products to our customers. See you there!

Kitchen Wizards (every Wed and Saturday until November 30th):  Kitchen Wizards is an exciting program designed to lead students, especially those 8-12 years old, on a quest to explore the magic of local produce: what it is, where it grows and how delicious it tastes in culinary creations. Funded by the Wolfville Farmers’ Market, the wizards at the Acadia School of Nutrition and Dietetics create concoctions for tasting while sharing their recipes and passion for healthy food.   To participate kids come to the Market and sign up for a free Kitchen Wizard Passport and then get a $3 Magic Token to buy Market produce each time they visit the Market.   The program is on Wednesdays (4 - 7 pm) and Saturdays (8:30 am - 1 pm) from now until November 30th.
