Rod Malay (aka: Jasper Bog) is a graduate of NSCAD University Alumni 1969. He mixes fun art with serious art. In the fun art, he plays some of the country western and Irish music he listened to as a child, while experimenting with his original compositions for guitar and banjitar. Rod does not consider himself a musician so his playing style is unique and evolving, under the stage character, Jasper Bog.

On the serious side Rod’s art is about global social issues and challenges, that express concern about women, environment, religion, language metaphors and propaganda, corporate dictatorship, the future of artificial intelligence and the “post human world”. Even though the issues are serious, and often poignant, there is a lot of humour incorporated in Rod’s art. For example: He painted a picture of a monkey with his fingers, so that it was on a level playing field and asks, “Can humans out paint monkeys?” This painting is loaded with humour but, addresses the very serious and urgent issues of environmental degradation and species extinction. The title is: FRANK COTB and will be, among others, on display at the Jasper Bog presentation and ready for any questions, including… “Why that title?”

The poster, The Jasper Bog Show demonstrates the artist’s fun side but, merges this with his serious side in the video titled: The Birth Of An Activist (AKA, Inside The Metaphoric Man).

Rod will kick off his North American tour at ARTsPLACE, the end objective is to produce new art and a feature length documentary art video on the FIRST CELL of life and how it continues to influence human yearnings for home and space. This yearning is stashed deep in the DNA genetic memory bank and Rod will be using his art as a departure point for discussion.
