Horton's Because I Am A Girl will be hosting their second annual art show fundraiser. This years event will be paired with an exciting screening of the film Girl Rising.
Girl Rising is a global movement to unite girls, women, boys and men who believe every girl has the right to go to school and the right to reach her full potential. The movie was created to inspire individuals to take action.
The movie follows the stories of nine girls from nine different countries (Sierra Leone, Haiti, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Peru, Egypt, Nepal, India and Cambodia). Each girl had her story written by an author from her country and are voiced by various renown actors (such as Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep and Alicia Keys to name a few).
The art will be on auction throughout the evening and baked goods will also be on sale. The film will begin at 6:30pm in the Performance Centre.
The art on display is by students from Acadia's Art Department as well as various artists from Horton High School and is open to the general public from 4pm onward.
The film is rated PG13. However there is no nudity, scenes of sexuality or violence shown in the film itself. The film's rating is based on its mature theme. Parents are welcome to bring their children as it gives an important message about the power of education to change the future for girls, families, communities and entire nations.
