A very special Guitar recital will be taking place in The Manning Memorial Chapel at Acadia University on Friday Evening, May 2 at 7pm. Shawn Pickup, a graduate of Acadia and winner of First Place and the Gold Prize at the Canadian National Music Festival is presenting:

Song & Dance of the Guitar: from Europe's Royal Courts to the Streets of Brazil
A Classical Guitar Recital

In this meeting of Old World and New, we are presented with a colourful mixture of music from various eras from Europe to South America and back. We hear the courtly dance music of Baroque royalty, through to the melodic perfection of German art song, alongside the Spanish serenade and the fiery Flamenco music of the Andalucian Gypsies. The tunes and rhythms of South America then give way to a modern take on the Italian canzone.

This concert is given to benefit the Annapolis Valley Music Festival with free will offering.
