Don’t miss this unique opportunity to share the evening with one of Canada’s most captivating dance artists
Born in Halifax, Bhattacharya is a vivacious performer with a charismatic stage presence, recognized for her strong technique and thoughtful characterizations. Her performances have struck a deep emotional chord with audiences and critics alike. Her artistry is a reflection of her classical training and present- day aesthetic, her work is formally rigorous and displays an eloquence that goes beyond pure movement
Through this lecture-demonstration, audiences will learn how dances from other parts of the world are becoming part of the Canadian narrative. It also serves as an excellent primer for contemporary dance and how it is evolving in Canada.
SHE IS: Nova Bhattacharya, and on this “date” she will trace her journey from being a classically trained Bharatanatyam South Asian dancer to a contemporary dance choreographer and interpreter. Along the way, she will perform three solo dance works set to the beautiful music of tabla virtuoso and composer, Ed Hanley; she will offer eloquent and often humorous narration to her strange, wild ride; and will answer any questions you may have.
YOU ARE: a curious sort, who loves music and maybe dance – or not, dance could be entirely new. You like learning about new things.
Haven’t been on a date in a while? Not to worry, Nova will make your date with dance fun and memorable.
