Environmental and Sustainability Studies, the Department of Politics, and The Office of the Dean of Arts Presents a public talk by Michael Bradfield, Ph.D., Dalhousie University Dept. of Economics (Ret’d.)

"Fracking Fault Lines – What do we know, what problems might it solve, what problems does it create?"

Dr. Bradfield taught Economics at Dalhousie University from 1968-2007. His research focuses on the economic and social development of the Atlantic Provinces and on the impact of market imperfections on wages, employment, and prices. He is active in community groups and in the popular education of economic issues. As part of his community engagement activities Dr. Bradfield has prepared briefs for civil society groups on issues relating to energy, social justice, and the environment for Royal Commissions and all levels of government including the National Energy Board, the Ontario Energy Board and both the House of Commons and the Senate. Most recently he served as a member of the Nova Scotia Independent Panel on Hydraulic Fracturing, which delivered its report to the Provincial Government in August 2014.

Dr. Bradfield will offer insights into the work of the panel, placing its activities within the larger economic, social, and environmental contexts of hydraulic fracturing both provincially and beyond.
