International Migratory Bird Day is an international education program that highlights and celebrates the migration of nearly 350 species of migratory birds between nesting habitats in North America and non-breeding grounds in Latin America, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Clean Annapolis River Project is celebrating International Migratory Bird Day by promoting particiation in the Nova Scotia Migratory Bird Count. The count day is Saturday May 9, 2015.

The Nova Scotia Migratory Bird Count is an annual event where birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts across the province are encouraged to record what bird species they see or hear that day and how many of each species were witnessed. You don't have to be an experienced birdwatcher to participate, just as long as you can correctly identify the species which you record. In 2014 168 species of birds were observed on count day.

Observations can be taken from anywhere, such as feeders, backyards, or trails. Observation forms are avaialble on the Nova Scotia Bird Society website: http://www.nsbirdsociety.ca/index.php/volunteer/ns-migration-count. Copies can also be picked up at the CARP office or sent by e-mail.

Completed observation forms can be submitted to the CARP office, where they will be compiled for submission to the NS Bird Society.

CARP and the Town of Annapolis Royal will also be celebrating on May 9 with a kids Learn to Bird and Bird Walk program at the Annapolis Basin Marsh, Annapolis Royal. This is a free event that will include an introductory session on bird watching, followed by a walk around the marsh trail to identify as many bird species as possible. All ages (young and old) are welcome, however kids under 10 require adult supervision. Participants are asked to bring their own field guide and biniculors if available.
