Presented by the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia, the East Coast Literary Awards celebrate and promote excellence in writing from Atlantic Canada in three categories: fiction, poetry and non-fiction. The shortlisted authors in each category will be reading from their works in independent bookstores across Nova Scotia, and the Box of Delights is honoured and delighted to present the finalists in the Evelyn Richardson Non-Fiction Award:

Heather Sparling (NS), Reeling Roosters & Dancing Ducks: Celtic Mouth Music (Cape Breton University Press)

Graham Steele (NS), What I Learned About Politics: Inside the Rise and Collapse of Nova Scotia's NDP Government (Nimbus Publishing)

Kaleigh Trace (NS), Hot, Wet, & Shaking: How I Learned To Talk About Sex (Invisible Publishing)

The Evelyn Richardson Non-Fiction Award was first presented in 1978. Named in honour of Evelyn Richardson, who in 1945 won the Governor General’s Non-Fiction Award for ‘We Keep A Light’, her memoir of life in a family of lighthouse keepers in Shelburne County, the award has been honouring the best non-fiction titles by Nova Scotians for 34 years.

The winners will be announced on June 6 in Halifax. For more information visit the Writers’ Federation website: http://writers.ns.ca/competitions/wfns-book-prizes.html
