The Box of Delights is excited to present Sarah Mian, award-winning author and poet, reading from and signing her debut novel, the blistering 'When the Saints'.

'When the Saints', is being touted - quite rightly - as ushering in a new generation of contemporary Canadian literature. Original, gut-wrenching and incessantly hilarious, 'When the Saints' is the story of a clan of outsiders whose redemption might be found in what they longed to escape: each other.

A decade after being cast off to live with strangers, Tabby Saint returns to Solace River, Nova Scotia, to find her childhood home deserted. With nowhere to go, she latches on to the lonely tavern-keeper, West, who tells her that the Saints have been run out of town.

Tabby heads out in West’s truck to nearby Jubilant to find the fragments of her family. There she discovers a threadbare version of her bulletproof mother; two young kids abandoned by her unstable sister, Poppy; her brothers, Bird and Jackie, one crippled by a vicious attack, the other holding a dangerous grudge against the men responsible; and an ailing father, a man so vile he is unworthy of forgiveness even on his deathbed.

Irreverent and mouthy as they ever were, the Saints are still a lightning rod for trouble. When a storm arises with her brothers’ chronic rival, Tabby must decide whether to stay or run back the way she came. It might be an easy choice if not for her new sidekick, Janis, a five year-old who may become the next casualty of the family reputation.
