Ten Thousand Villages Sale
Friday October 2, 2015  6pm - 9pm (3 Hours)
Fundraiser / Charity

For two days St. Mary’s Bay Baptist Church offers the Barton community and surrounding towns and counties an opportunity to make a difference by shopping fair trade. The event, which is in its 9th year, also provides an opportunity for people to invest in the world from right here in our community. Purchases made during the sale invest in the lives of skilled artisans in Africa, Asia and Latin America, who receive a fair price for their work.

Each year, St. Mary’s Bay Baptist Church partners with Ten Thousand Villages, the oldest and largest fair trade retailer in North America. A non-profit organization, Ten Thousand Villages approaches business in a different way: they create an international marketplace where the well-being of artisans in developing countries is just as important as that of their North American customers. Ten Thousand Villages creates opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn an income by bringing their products and stories to our markets through long term relationships.

Shoppers will discover hundreds of handcrafted home décor items, musical instruments, ornaments, toys, jewellery plus much more, made by skilled artisans in more than 30 Developing countries. In addition to over 100 Festival Sales held this past year in communities from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island, Ten Thousand Villages also operates 36 stores across Canada. Ten Thousand Villages is a non-profit, fair trade organization and a program of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). MCC is the relief, service and peace agency of the Mennonite and Brethren in Christ churches.
