David Hood is a Nova Scotian author currently teaching in Singapore. Finley Martin is a former teacher and PR consultant who has contributed poetry, short stories, and writing to various CBC productions.

"What Kills Good Men" begins on October night in 1899, on a Halifax wharf. Chief Inspector Culligan Baxter, with the help of plenty of barkeeps, petty thieves, and prostitutes, must piece together the mysterious death of a city councilman.

"The Dead Letter" follows PI Anne Brown into an alleged murder case eleven years old. She soon discovers that her investigation is unwanted, and she becomes a target herself. When her client calls it quits and abandons the case, Anne wonders if it is worth going-it alone.
