In 2008, 23 people, across five provinces, died as a result of a listeriosis outbreak that was eventually linked to meats produced at a Maple Leaf plant in Ontario.
In 2009, Lone Jespersen was named Director, Food Safety and Operations Learning, taking responsibility for the execution of the food safety strategy. Her talk will include a discussion about the importance of understanding human behaviour and the methods used to transform the culture of food safety within Maple Leaf Foods.
