Take Action On Radon: Educate, Test, Mitigate
Tuesday November 24, 2015  7pm - 8pm (1 Hour)
Lecture / Seminar

Most Canadians have never heard of radon, yet radon exposure is the leading cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers. Radon is a colourless, odorless, radioactive gas found naturally in the environment. In indoor air, it can accumulate at high levels and cause serious health effects. Fortunately, radon is beatable; once detected, the problem can be mitigated. November is “Radon Action Month in Canada”. Government, radon professionals, builders and academics all are speaking together this month to encourage Canadians to take action on radon. The talk will outline the nature of radon, testing methods, and strategies for individuals, communities, and government to take action on radon.

Dr. Svetlana Barkanova is the Ivan Curry Professor of Physics at Acadia University. Svetlana is a recipient of the Acadia Student Union Teaching Recognition Award, a winner of First Place in Faculty Research Showcase, and is the Chair of the Division of Theoretical Physics of the Canadian Association of Physicists.
