Talk Life Community Presents Matt Lukeman: The Sky is Falling! Or is it? Separating Fact from Fiction in Our Chemical World

Everyday we are bombarded with conflicting messages about chemicals. We see ads for formulations that promise to help us look younger, get slimmer, or become healthier, and at the same time told to live ‘chemical-free’ lifestyles.

We are told that approved food additives are safe to eat, while others urge us to only eat organic food. Some advise us to always wear sunscreen, and others tell us to never use it. Some tell us to vaccinate our children, while others tell us that vaccines cause autism or other diseases.

Who can we trust? In this talk, Dr. Matthew Lukeman from Acadia’s chemistry department, will examine several of these claims and attempt to look through the messaging to see what the best scientific evidence tells us.

Lukeman has a Ph.D. in Chemistry and has been working as a professor in the Department of Chemistry at Acadia University since 2005. He is currently head of the department. Dr. Lukeman is married to his high school sweetheart Nicole, and together they have two daughters, Anna and Kate.

This event is open to men and women.

Proceeds will be donated to Open Arms. To reserve your space, please email Vanessa at talklifecommunity@gmail.com or contact Lia at 902-680-5331, or Laura at 902-678-1562.

Talk Life Community (TLC) was created by three friends who realized how many accomplished women they knew, all with important stories and life lessons to share. The group consists of Lia Glover, Port Williams, and Vanessa Gennette and Laura Churchill Duke, Kentville.

Talk Life Community is a roaming talk cafe for women. It focuses on the joys and challenges of women of all ages and experiences. Our goal is to share stories from those who have been there, done that. With so many creative, courageous, intelligent and accomplished women in the Valley to tell their stories, we believe you will leave a Talk Life Community event, better than you arrived.
