Praised for extreme passion, and fervent dedication to her craft, Amina Holloway is quickly building a reputation as one of Canada’s most interesting young soloists.
As a scholarship student of world renowned cellist Shauna Rolston at the University of Toronto, Amina enjoys the benefits of cutting edge methodologies, interpretations, and a rich studio of talented peers. Amina has participated in master classes with some of the world’s most prominent cellists, and performers, most recently; Annalee Patipatanakoon, Ariel Barnes, Nina Lee, Gabriel Prokofiev, Brian Manker, Ina Esther-Joost, and Cecylia Barcsyk. Amina has taught all age and ability levels, both in private and group settings for the last seven years.
Devoting much of her time to researching historical and modern methods of teaching music, Amina has been able to synthesize a new approach to cello technique that focuses on a holistic style. Mathematics, language, psychology, physicality, and games are drawn into each lesson to provide a broad field of context and relationships for each subject.
Humour is an extremely important factor in effective teaching, and Amina strives to create a stimulating and enjoyable learning experience. Each student is treated with respect, and individually tailored goals are set. When not performing, touring, or teaching, Amina resides in Toronto with her husband, and their two small dogs.
