Andy Jones in An Evening with Uncle Val
Tuesday July 22, 2008  7:30pm
Written by Andy Jones and Michael Jones, Sr. Directed by Lois Brown. Running Time: approx. 100 mins. Andy Jones is the hilariously sarcastic Uncle Val in ‘An Evening with Uncle Val.’ An indignant, 70 year old retired fisherman, displaced from his outport home, Uncle Val is now trapped in the ‘big city’ of St. John’s. The year is 1987. Homesick, Val struggles to figure out what life has left to offer him. Uncle Val’s journey brings us an evening of Christmas reminiscences, encounters with the Beatles, and the danger of St. John’s winters, or as Val likes to call it: The Seniors’ Olympics. There is also the ongoing drama of his obnoxious son-in-law’s George Street pub, and there’s Uncle Val’s devilish brand of babysitting “Do’s and Don’ts”, drawn from his experience as live-in babysitter for his daughter’s rhyming youngsters, Jimmy and Kimmy.
