Pirates of the Atlantic comes to Acadia

Ever wonder about real life pirates? Pirates roamed the Canadian East Coast committing robbery, murder and mayhem and Dan Conlin knows all about it.

On Thursday, April 8 at 7:30pm in BAC 241 at Acadia University, Dan Conlin will be giving an open, free presentation about pirates of the Atlantic.

Dan Conlin is Curator of Marine History at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, part of the Nova Scotia Museum. Born in Berwick, Dan earned a journalism and history Bachelor degree at Carleton University in Ottawa. He worked for five years as a producer at CBC Radio with the CBC Morning show in Ottawa and at As It Happens as well as a few years in Africa as a volunteer at a school and on an archeological dig. He returned to Nova Scotia 12 years ago to get a Masters Degree in History at Saint Mary’s University and upon completion was hired by the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. He put together the museum's exhibits on Joshua Slocum, Families at Sea, Titanic, Shipwrecks and Pirates. His pirate exhibit is now touring the province and it inspired his first book which has just been published: Pirates of the Atlantic: Robbery, murder and mayhem off the Canadian East Coast.

This presentation is sponsored by Acadia’s department of History and Classics. For more information, contact Dr. Paul Doerr at paul.doerr@acdiau.ca or phone .
