Jillian Keddy-Welsh: I have grown up in the Valley, spending most of my life in Kentville. I attended KCA and moved to NKEC when it opened. I had no idea what I wanted to do after high school but eventually found my way to Walmart working part time. After 2 years working in all parts of the store (mostly the Customer Service desk) I found a full time job in the Vision Centre. Where I found my "calling" as an optician. I have been in the Vision Centre for the last 3 years, 2 of those as a student optician. I am almost finished the distance program through the Norther Alberta Institute of Technology and hope to have my dispensing opticians license by summer.
I would like to talk a bit on a few subjects regarding vision. Overall eye health, the importance of regular eye exams. A few eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, age related muscular degeneration. A little on eye health for children and also sun awareness and your eyes. I will also talk a little about who an optician is and what we do.
