The Canning Kitchen Party is finding creative ways to safely bring live music to our town! This week we bring Mama's Broke & Samantha Wilson to Kingsport Beach. Sunday rain date.
Mama’s Broke is a powerful folk duo that deliver a compelling performance with heart and raw energy. Although highly influenced by their Canadian roots, Lisa and Amy are based out of nowhere and everywhere.
Their two strong voices blend to create haunting harmonies, while they artfully juggle fiddle, banjo, guitar and mandolin, and incorporate traditional dance and foot percussion into their performance. Their original – and often dark – compositions push the boundaries of tradition and the constraints of genre. Drawing from old-time, Quebecois, blues, punk, Celtic, Balkan and doom metal, they create a soundscape that is both familiar and new.

In 2019 Sam Wilson released Groundless Apprehensions, a post-bop modern jazz compilation, self described as a ‘sonic memoir’ that reflects on the past and processes it through music. She will be releasing a solo guitar album in late 2020 that elaborates on her EP Into A Heart. Notable past performances include leading her own band at the Halifax Jazz Festival, Open Waters Festival, and Deep Roots Music Festival, as well as supporting musicians at Prismatic Arts Festival and Nova Scotia Music Week.

Music In Communities Co-op is excited to host outdoor concerts around Canning and area while the weather is good.
We encourage folks to bring an instrument or a song to sing and we'll have a jam after the shows - it's been a strange time so let's play music together in person while we can.
