Chinese Comic Fangzou He is back on tour and the “hitchhiking comedian”, as he’s known is smashing stereotypes with every small town he gigs in.
Fangzhou figures in such stressful times, we all need a laugh as much as ever, and he’ll be happy to provide several when he visits.
Fangzhou has been a frequent guest on CBC Radio One, and he has also been on CTV, Rogers TV, and SiriusXM and used to hitchhike across the country and pursue his comedy dream.
“I would say I do deadpan, observational and heritage comedy. I have been travelling across the country (hitchhiking and couch-surfing) for five years non-stop, and I have been interacting with lots of very interesting people along the way which gives me tons of unique, funny stories.”
The Toronto resident, who originally came to Canada from China to study math and finance, has been honing his craft since graduating from university.
“Being a comedian during the pandemic has been very difficult. However, I took this opportunity to do more research on comedy and work on my craft. It gave me lots of time to rethink my comedy materials and career path for the future. I went to remote places like Haida Gwaii and Yukon and even some COVID hot spots like Kootenay to entertain people. When I saw people have smiles on their faces after the shows, I felt the risk was worth it.”
Fangzhou is also very generous! The show at the Annapolis Royal Legion will be a benefit for Marianne Longmire and family, who lost their house and belongings to fire in December. Half of the ticket sales for the show will be directed to Marianne at the end of the night.
