Presenter Matt Lukeman speaks about the possibility of a treasure hoard on the small island of Oak Island, on the
South Shore of Nova Scotia. It has captivated imaginations for over 200 years, and has attracted an essentially unbroken string of treasure hunters and
investors. The search continues to this day, with much of the current activity filmed for the hit cable series, “The Curse of Oak Island”. In recent years, the searchers have been increasing their reliance on scientific methods to help guide the search. This presentation will give a rough sketch of the history of the treasure hunt, discuss some ways that science is helping to shed light on the mystery, and will also include some of my personal experiences about being directly involved in working on the island, and doing real science alongside cameras and the realities of producing a major TV program.
