Celebrate St. Paddy’s Day with a night of Irish ballads, traditional & original music, stories, and more. Damian Brennan on guitar, Tin Whistle & Bodhran drum, and Jenny Melvin on fiddle.
Now living in the Annapolis Valley, multi-instrumentalist Damian Brennan was born in Belfast, Ireland during the height of political unrest. It was there he was taught the Tin Whistle and later the Bodhran drum. Damian was surrounded by traditional Irish music at a young age, which became his passion and a great distraction from the escalating political violence of the time. Damian has recorded two albums, Dear Irish Boy and Shamrock Shore, on which he played all the instruments as well as produced. His latest single is Cois Fharraige, which tells an embellished tale of an old fisherman, forced to retire to the mainland.
Jenny Melvin is a fiddler and multi-instrumentalist living in Annapolis Valley. She began learning traditional music from family and local musicians, in sessions and as played for dancers. Her initial pursuit of further musical education began at the University of Toronto, and following that, the Royal Conservatory of Music and the University of Limerick, Ireland where she received diplomas. However, as the music of her home place and its’ history continued to captivate her, she began to study with masters of traditional music in the west of Ireland, the point of origin for much the music in her own area. Over the years, her mentors have included Oisín Mac Diarmada, Liam Kelly, Gráinne Hambly and Stephen Doherty.
