We are excited to offer a one-day Youth Songwriting Workshop, facilitated by talented musicians Micaela Comeau (Wuzzô) and Nicole Tufts (DJ Hierophunk) of The New Earth Academy
In this workshop, participants will learn how to write and compose their own songs from scratch, with guidance from the instructors. Micaela and Nicole are both experienced performers and musicians, who have a wealth of knowledge to share. Participants will learn how to use their creativity and imagination to craft lyrics, melodies, and harmonies that express their unique perspectives and experiences.
Throughout the workshop, participants will have access to a variety of musical instruments, including guitars, keyboards, and percussion instruments, to help bring their songs to life. Micaela and Nicole will provide individual attention to each youth, helping them to hone their songwriting skills and encouraging them to explore their own musical interests. At the end of the workshop, each participant will have the opportunity to perform their original song for the group, with Micaela and Nicole providing feedback and encouragement. They will leave the workshop with a newfound sense of confidence and accomplishment, as well as a deeper appreciation for the art of songwriting. This workshop is perfect for youth who have a love for music and a desire to explore their creative side. With the guidance of Micaela and Nicole, they will discover the joy of songwriting and the power of self-expression through music.
Recommended Ages*: 8-14
Participants should bring clean, indoor footwear, lunch, and a water bottle.
The workshop is free but space is limited. Registration is required.
*At this age range, children are typically able to understand basic music theory concepts, have developed some writing and language skills, and can express themselves creatively. They are also able to concentrate for longer periods of time, which is necessary for a five-hour workshop. However, it’s important to note that children develop at different rates, and there may be some youth outside of this age range who would also benefit from the workshop.
THE NEXT GEN THEATRE PROJECT is an initiative of King’s Theatre that includes free workshops for both adults and youth to build on the community’s passion for creating theatre. The aim is to celebrate diversity, resilience & belonging in Kespukwitk. The project is supported by Canadian Heritage’s Celebration and Commemoration Program, Reopening Fund.
