Screening+Discussion:
Paths of Glory / Stanley Kubrick (1957, 88m, B/W)
Join Concordia film grad Christopher Ward as he introduces the work of Stanley Kubrick. Discussion encouraged.
A profound anti-war film based on Humphrey Cobb's novel. A haunting, exquisitely photographed dissection of the military machine in all its absurdity, capacity for dehumanization is assembled with its legendary director’s customary precision, and Kirk Douglas's powerful leading performance.
The screening will be upstairs, accessible only by stairway.
---
Christopher Ward, a graduate of Concordia's Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema, will be screening a selection of films over the course of fall and winter 2023/24.
This is the second in his four-part series of standout anti-war films from four different countries, selected to span each decade from 1930-62:
- Oct. 23: Ivan's Childhood, Tarkvsky (1962, Soviet Union)
- Dec. 4: Paths of Glory, Stanley Kubrick (1957, USA)
- tba: Silence de la mer, Jean-Pierre Melville (1949, France)
- tba: Westfront 1918, G. W. Pabst (1930, Weimar Republic)
