Rendezvous Quartet
Two incredible young musicians from Cuba studying abroad. Augusto Pedro in Spain and Alison Rocio in Canada. They are products of Cuba’s legendary music education system and the children of one of Cuba’s most loved singers, Augusto Enriquez. Augusto spent 35 years performing all over the world and has now chosen to live in Nova Scotia because like Cuba, we own a piece of paradise.
Jeff Goodspeed is one of the most recognized jazz musicians in Nova Scotia. He and his wife Amara founded Los Primos Project together in 1997 to help with the shortage of instruments in Cuban music schools. In 20 years they have raised close to $600,000 for music education in Nova Scotia, delivered more that 700 instruments to schools and individual musicians in Cuba and organized more than 40 cultural exchange trips between Nova Scotia and Cuba. This summer Los Primos will present music of the Enriquez family all over the province.
Augusto Pedro Enriquez has been studying music for the past 6 years in Spain and is now completing his Masters at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid. He has been featured as a soloist on classical guitar with the Madrid Symphony orchestra. As well as being a guitar master, he has inherited from his father, a voice with power and elegance.
Alison Enriquez just finished her grade 11 after 2 years on scholarship at Armbrae Academy in Halifax. She is the principal 2nd violin in the NS Youth Orchestra and the Dalhousie Symphony Orchestra. At 17, Alison sings like a 30-year professional and is now a regular every week at Stayner’s Sunday Jazz.
Alison and Augusto Pedro have not seen each other in over 4 years. Come join the celebration of this Cuban-Canadian Rendezvous in Nova Scotia. A family reunion that will make you laugh and bring a tear to your eye, as they play everything from the Classics to Latin Jazz and traditional Cuban music. This Rendezvous Quartet will bring and arsenal of instruments including violin, electric 5 string violin, classical guitar, electric guitar, Cuban guitar, saxophones (soprano, alto, tenor), flute, EWI, electric bass, percussion and beautiful voices.
