Many will remember dancing to the sounds of Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and other great bands of the swing era.
Tunes such as Tuxedo Junction, Satin Doll, Moonlight Serenade and In the Mood helped folks cope with the difficult war years.
Musically the 40’s was a time of a special brand of happy music known as swing. While commercial music has evolved through varia-tions to rock and rap, the big bands of the swing era have never really disappeared.
The Annapolis Big Band is one such group car-rying on the tradition of the swing era music while updating their play list to include more recent styles of music including light rock and funk.
The Annapolis Big Band plays authentic ar-rangements of well-known tunes. They have over 100 tunes in their library, including bal-lads, jive tunes, waltzes, rock and funk.
The band is comprised of 18 musicians playing arrangements written in the typical big band format of 5 saxophones, 4 trombones, 5 trum-pets and a rhythm section of piano, guitar, bass and drums.
The Moonlight Concert this year is a tribute to Chris French, a member of the Annapolis Big Band who passed away earlier this year. Proceeds of the Moonlight Concert will go to aid his family. A donation will be grate-fully received. All are welcome to come and enjoy this fine musical group playing music of the 30’s , 40’s and beyond.
