Previously Loved Jewellery for sale by Wolfville Kikima Grandmothers Group.
Several years ago a group of grandmothers and grand ‘others’ made a heart to heart connection with a group of grandmothers (gogos) in Kikima , Kenya. These 28 grandmothers were raising their grandchildren because their children had died from HIV/AIDS. Over 60 gogos and children are part of the group, sadly more grandchildren are... coming into the group due the deaths of their parents. These women were in a desperate state, there was a drought and the crops had failed. Knowing that one person would not be able to do much, the Kings grannies came together and made a commitment to the Gogos that they would send money for food for as long as was needed. Last year the rains came and crops were planted.
Since the relationships have been established, many positive events have happened. Letters are exchanged regularly between the grannies. Monies have been paid for uniforms and school tuitions, with the support of the Wolfville Rotary, goats have been bought and they are now having babies!!! The latest project is the building of water weirs to aid the irrigation of crops. However, all is not good, so much depends on the weather. The rains have not come this season so money is needed to help with the basic need of food.
The Kings grannies are fully committed to this little community and are willing to do whatever it takes to ensure their survival and to help in the education of the grandchildren.
