Promise In a New Land: Cherrie Beam-Callaway is “Mariah Monahan”, a Nebraska settler between 1847 and 1870. Based on historical facts, Mariah and her Irish brogue and period dress captivates the audience in a first-person presentation. Through a spellbinding performance, viewers are transported in time to sail the ocean, walk the wagon trail, live in a dugout, feel the loneliness and fight the prairie fires. Laugh and cry with stories of owning land, successful crops, hard work, dancing, diphtheria, losing loved ones, grasshoppers, and becoming an American. From Nebraska and Little River, she will present first person “ Little House on the Prairie’ type stories. She has been a professional storyteller for Humanities Nebraska for 38 years and has traveled statewide teaching well over 150,000 children and adults. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Zion United Church Repair Fund.
