Fundy Folk, and the Evergreen Theatre in Margaretsville, are pleased to announce the line-up for the first in their series of four Fundy Folk Nights this season. In a return to the format that was so successful in days gone by, the show will feature a variety of local talent, including one host performer and four "open Mic" acts. Price of admission to the April 14 show will be just $10.00 at the door (no reserved seats at this point).
Host performer for the evening will be well-known singer-songwriter Darren Arsenault, who will be serving up "a large platter of smoky blues smothered in swingin' country sauce, piled high on a bed of hot toasted bluegrass…" Darren is an old friend of Fundy Folk and we are thrilled to have him kick off our revival.
Cuckoo Moon are old friends as well, having performed and hosted Fundy Folk Nights in the old Margaretsville Fire Hall venue in the good old days! Kate Adams and Cathy Arsenault are songwriters who have fun with imaginative arrangements and harmonies. Steven Cooke, writing in the Chronicle Herald, said they …"fill their music with the pulse and beauty of their Valley surroundings, set to a rhythm as soothing as the flow of the Fundy tide."
Juno award winner Jim Henman is a founding member of the rock band April Wine, which has earned him a place in the Canadian Music Industry Hall Of Fame. Jim has since returned to his roots, somewhere in between the Delta/Piedmont blues and the flavorful grooves of Lovin' Spoonful. Jim tells us he has been wanting to play at the Evergreen, and we are thrilled to have him.
Morghain Lee is an up an coming young singer on the music scene here in the Valley with a background in piano and choral singing but with a love of pop, rock and jazz. Her accompanist (and dad) Steve Lee is a dyed in the wool Nova Scotian and has been teaching music and performing here for decades.
Melodi Brinton has been singing since she was three and she continues to impress people with her talent today. She has recently started to write her own songs and perform solo at various venues. She impressed the audience with her role in Edalene Theatre's production of their original musical "Jump" this winter in Wolfville.
