It is hard to believe that the Sheffield Mills Harvest Fair will be held for a 50th time this year on Saturday, September 8th beginning at 11:00 AM.
The fair kicks off with the children’s parade at 11:00 (registration at 10:30) The Bob Deveau band will provide musical entertainment from 11:30 – 1:30. Bob plays easy listening hits that people of all ages enjoy. From 1:30 – 2:15 the Glooscap Hot Dogs Performance Team take the field. There will be opportunity to meet with the dogs and their trainers after the show. Next up at 2:15 prominent members of the moo-nicipality will compete in our 3rd annual cow milking contest. Contestants include (but not limited to) Kentville Mayor David Corkum, MLA for Kings North Jim Morton, Canning’s own village commissioner Kim MacQuarrie, Miss Canning from this year’s Apple Blossom Pageant and others. Darrell Dexter, Stephen MacLean and Jamie Bailey have been asked to participate in celebration of our 50th anniversary but have yet to confirm… ya never know, they just might come! Following the cow milking contest will be our goods and services auction at 3:00 and a chicken BBQ supper from 4:00 – 6:00. The chicken is prepared by the Canning Fire Department and is a taste to behold.
Be sure to come to our country store and bake table early in the day so you don’t miss out on a bounty of fresh vegetables and tasty treats at unbeatable prices.
All day events include horse and hay wagon rides, children’s games, horse shoe tournament and petting zoo. A canteen will be available for much of the day to provide food and refreshments. Mark your calendars and come to Sheffield Mills for a day filled with music, fun, food and silliness!
