Music
East Coast Music Award winner Rose Cousins will be joined onstage by rising star Catherine MacLellan in an evening of finely-crafted original songs and beautiful harmonies. Located on Gerrish Street in downtown Windsor, the concert at MIPAC marks the sixth event of the popular Winter Becomes Spring Entertainment Series.
While growing up on a Prince Edward Island potato farm, Rose Cousins developed her musical ear listening to whatever her mother had playing on the stereo, the record player or on her own clock radio. The second eldest of five children, Cousins would use her father¹s cassette recorder to capture music from the radio and movies on TV, and play it by ear on the old piano in the living room. Her style is beautifully captured in her latest release and first full-length recording If You Were For Me, an album which draws on influences from traditions of folk, bluegrass, pop and Appalachian music.
Matching pure and ethereal vocals with poetic lyrics and her uncompromising song writing craft, there is no doubt as to why Catherine MacLellan has become one of the most celebrated new performers in Canada, and around the world, by her contemporaries and media alike. The Windsor concert offers an excellent opportunity to hear two of Canada¹s finest singer-songwriters.
The Winter Becomes Spring Entertainment Series is a pilot project benefiting Hants County residents, young and old. The series of entertainment events seeks to enliven the downtown core, encourage spin off customers to other local businesses, provide exceptional local entertainment options that are accessible and affordable, and give people from outside the area another reason to visit Windsor. Proceeds from the series will be directed to the completion of renovations at the Mermaid Imperial Performing Arts Centre.
