More than 70 artists visit Annapolis Royal on August 17 and 18 for the annual Paint the Town© event. Throughout the weekend, they will paint or carve or shape iron at various sites around the town. As work is completed, it will be displayed at the Royal Canadian Legion on Victoria Street, where it will be sold by silent auction each night. The public is invited to watch the artists at work throughout the day, then view and bid on the newly finished paintings as they are displayed.
Participating artists have ranged from emerging talent to such well-known names as Rose Adams, Wayne Boucher, Geoff Butler, Tom Forrestall, David Lacey and Brad Hall. They work in all styles, from traditional to contemporary, in a variety of media including oil, acrylic, watercolour, iron, stone, wood, and photography. In previous years, they have produced an average of over 500 pieces of art over the weekend.
Paint the Town© is sponsored by the Annapolis Royal Community Arts Council (ARCAC), and proceeds from the art sales are split 50/50 between the organization and the artists.
ARCAC is a registered charitable organization dedicated to celebrating and promoting the arts.
