The Western Valley Minor Hockey Association is proud to announce that Hockey Nova Scotia will present a Coach Development Symposium.
With the recent removal of Body Contact at the Pee Wee level across Hockey Canada, a national working group has been established with the mandate to re-define how Minor Hockey Associations and Coaches educate and develop the progressive individual checking skills and tactics for Minor Hockey moving forward. As a means to implement this new directive, Hockey Nova Scotia will hold this symposium in order to deliver the newly established national standardized program for teaching progressive checking skills. This half day coach development clinic will instruct and train minor hockey coaches on ‘how, when, and what’ checking skills/ techniques are to be taught at each age division from Novice to Bantam.
This Clinic will be instructed by Hockey Nova Scotia Development Staff. They have prepared an off ice/ on ice session to be delivered to as many coaches and referee’s as possible as soon as possible. The WVMHA Development Committee is highly encouraging ‘ALL’ coaches and Officials within WVMHA, Acadia Minor Hockey and West Hants Minor Hockey Associations to attend this critically important Coach Specialty Symposium and maximum participation is anticipated. There will be no cost to the Coach or Association to attend.
HNS and WVMHA would like to make the most of this opportunity to reach and educate as many people on this new way ahead for Canadian Minor Hockey through this highly educational symposium. The transferable skills through our coaches will hopefully insure consistency of instruction across HNS Minor Hockey Associations starting as early as the 2013/14 season and in the long term insure a safe and enjoyable minor hockey experience for all.
