Blomidon Naturalists Society.
Sharon Stratton was born and raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario, where she spent much of her time in the outdoors and with her pets. Her first career was as a veterinary technician, followed by 13 years with the daily newspaper in St. Catharines, spending the majority of her time in advertising sales. During these years she also trained and competed in hunter shows with her horses, as well as continuing to explore the Ontario forests through hiking and kayaking. She decided to pursue a university degree as her mid-life crisis, graduating from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a Minor in Genetics, at 41 years of age. After a brief stint as a neurochemistry lab techncian in Omaha, Nebraska (where she had much more fun wildlife rehabbing 26 opossums) she relocated again to Calgary and, after five years of applications was finally accepted into the Alberta Sustainable Resources fire tower program. She now divides her time seasonally, spending summers at her fire tower in the foothills and, until this year, winters as a judicial assistant with the Calgary Courts. She published a book in late 2006 called Between Forest and Sky: A Fire-Tower Journal.
