Sanna Rahola is a Finnish fiber artist and designer living on the shores of the Minas Basin in Nova Scotia. She creates richly textured compositions using silk, linen, merino wool and other natural fibers. Rahola is inspired by nature. Much of what is natural to Nova Scotia unfolds across the surfaces she creates: the ocean, fields and forests - from the majestic to the minute. Rahola sees beauty and meaning in things as simple as the seaweed on the beach or the lines left in the sand by the tide. Her exhibition "Strandlines" focuses on the lines of natural materials discarded on the beach at high tide. "The high tides of the Minas Basin often leave their marks in surprising and beautiful ways" says Rahola. These lines created by the earth's gravitational forces offer me endless inspiration. "Strandlines" is the beginning of her adventure into this theme. Sanna's eye is always searching for beauty in unexpected places and she shares her inspirations by exploring the boundaries of felted art.
