BLUE LOTUS - World Music Ensemble
Blue Lotus sings both from and to the heart. The three members of this Canadian world music ensemble are inspired by their passion for Indian raga, Sufi poetry, Turkish rhythms, and the direct language of the love song, in its many manifestations.
At times romantic, playful and devotional, their sound is intimate, acoustic and international - blending the warmth and beauty of songs in English, Sanskrit and Farsi with the dynamic intensity of Indian and Middle Eastern drumming, and balanced over a smooth, focused layer of drone.
MUSICIANS
SAHARA NASR
(voice, sarangi, guitar, percussion)
Born to an Afghan father and a Canadian mother, Sahara’s music has taken her around the world. As a solo artist, she has toured in Holland, France, India, China, USA and many times across Canada. As well as being the voice of Blue Lotus, Sahara has been deeply immersed in the study of Indian classical music with renowned teachers Sultan Khan (Bombay) and Joep Bor (Amsterdam), and she has taught classes in Indian music at both Ithaca College and Acadia University.
