The Bombadils are a four piece folk ensemble that unite an eclectic variety of influences to present a unique interpretation of traditional music. Though the group first connected in Montreal, QC, at McGill University over a shared curiosity surrounding the Celtic and bluegrass traditions, fiddler Sarah Frank, guitarist Luke Fraser, bassist Alan Mackie, and flautist Anh Phung were raised Canada-wide and trained in classical performance and modern improvisation. Endearingly described by those closest to them as "cinematic folk", The Bombadils have been bringing music and high spirits to the concert halls and Irish pubs of the world since 2009, allowing diverse influences to flow naturally through their compositions, arrangements, and improvisations, all the while bridging cultural and linguistic forms.
"Fill Your Boots!", the 2012 debut album, displays a concise and spirited overview of the band and the energy that would drive them through to the present day. "Fill Your Boots!" – featuring five original compositions and five standards to which the group lends each of their voices and the roots of their talents as multi-instrumentalists – paved the way for two years on the road spreading their word and honing their craft, culminating in the realization of "Grassy Roads, Wandering Feet" in 2014. Nine originals and three standards highlight the youthful and honest songwriting the four are capable of in addition to the polished performance thereof. Having added mandolin, banjo, harmonica, and a variety of Irish whistles to their arsenal, "Grassy Roads, Wandering Feet" is both a landmark in the band's constant evolution as well as an experiment in textures and a call to continue to move forward.
