Local Urban scape Painting (an indoor oil painting workshop) October 20 - November 24 (6 weeks), Mondays 7-9pm
This indoor workshop approaches local environment through photographic sources, memory, and process observation. Its purpose is to develop the ability to see, perceive, inscribe, and translate experience as it relates to the subject of the Wolfville landscape. Various systems of representation will be studied over six sessions. Oil painting techniques will also be explored such as under painting, glazing, alla prima (direct painting), to expand the students understanding of the expressive potential of oil paint.
Note: Open to all skill levels. Materials not included. Participants will be provided with a materials list for the workshop.
About the instructor:
Steven Rhude graduate with honours in drawing and painting from the Ontario College of Art and Design. He also studied drawing in Florence Italy with support from an Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation award. He later moved to Nova Scotia and devoted himself full-time to painting. In his work, Rhude continues to explore his passion for themes, which evoke the ethos of coastal communities in Atlantic Canada, their social conditions and iconic character. His work is held in private and public collections across Canada and beyond.
