Thursday October 23, 2014 7pm - 9pm (2 Hours)
Lecture / Seminar
artgallery@acadiau.ca
(902) 585-1373
Event in Room: BAC 132
In conjunction with the Acadia University Art Gallery’s exhibition, Consuming Conflict, join us for a lively Fall Speaker series related to war and popular culture.
This talk explores words used to describe mass violence. The ‘right’ words can bring help. The ‘wrong’ words cause apathy. The emotive valence of labels gives them power. They become matters of life and death.
Speaker Bio: Jamie Sedgwick is a Harrison McCain Emerging Scholar in the Department of History & Classics at Acadia University.
Followed by a reception in the art gallery.
A special thank you to the Department of History and Classics, and the Harrison McCain Foundation Awards.
