The Alliance of Kings Artists (AKA) “takes it outside” again with a creative way to raise awareness & funds through amazing art, with Uncommon Common Art.
Terry Drahos of AKA believes that, “There are aspects of our environment that often go unnoticed” Drahos continues, “fifteen Artists participated in this community-based environmental art installation…creating Uncommon Common Art”. Contributing Artists were asked to create an original art piece in nature that asks us to stop and pay attention. Whether on private or public property, all art locations are accessible to the public. Ranging from the subtle to the obvious, the imagination and creativity of each Artist is showcased in a uniquely individual way.
The cultural scavenger hunt encourages you to find the locations on a large, full-colour poster/map, photographed by Ernest Cadegan. All of the art locales are on one side and information about each individual art piece, the Artist and the sponsors on the other. The poster/maps will be distributed throughout the Valley with all proceeds going to AKA. It allows people to explore their own “backyard” with a sense of surprise and fun.
The 2009 map is in the works with a “kick off” on June 19th from 7-9 p.m. at the Harriett Irving Botantical Gardens at Acadia University(details to follow). Good for the environment, community and soul, this project takes people to places of beauty…literally and figuratively
