The Long Island Youth Orchestra,a group of 50+ high school students and young adults from the New York area, will play a benefit concert in the Annapolis Valley for local youth programs.

The orchestra, founded 47 years ago, by current director Martin Dreiwitz, is based at Long Island University in Brockville, Long Island. Its stated objective is to bring together exceptionally gifted young players and give them an opportunity to perform challenging music which would not normally be available to them in a high school program. The orchestra prepares four concert programs each year, three of which are performed at the 2400 seat Tilles Centre at the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University. On April 1st, the orchestra played at Carnegie Hall.

One of the distinctive features of the Long Island Youth Orchestra is their summer concert tours, which have taken place over the past 33 years. They have visited most every part of the world since they began touring in 1971. Some of the alumni have become members of the prestigious orchestras in the United States and the world.
